The Kindergarten Classes recently wrapped up their Hospital Unit. They were fortunate enough to visit Grant Regional Health Center to see everything they learned about in real life! Missy, Rochelle, Hannah and Kami put on a wonderful tour. Students had the opportunity to try many of the important tools doctors and nurses use to keep people safe and healthy while in the hospital. They also toured the hospital which included a special trip to the roof to see the helipad! The kindergarten classes want to say a big "thank you" to Grant Regional for a wonderful trip! #fes #EaglesSoar For more pictures visit https://fcs.smugmug.com/2023-24-School-Year/Fennimore-Elementary-School-2023-24/Kindergarten-2023-24/Hospital-Field-Trip

Recently the third-grade students finished their Biography Unit. Exploring the biographies of famous figures helps students develop their critical thinking, understand multiple perspectives, and learn about different times in history. They showcased their understanding by crafting essays and constructing bottle buddy models representing their selected personalities. Well done, third graders! Don't forget to visit the 3rd grade hallway tomorrow night during Fine Arts Night to check out the bottle buddies. #fes #EagleSoar For more pics visit https://fcs.smugmug.com/2023-24-School-Year/Fennimore-Elementary-School-2023-24/3rd-Grade-2023-24/Bottle-buddies

Fourth grade students presented their family history projects recently. Students focused on the terms like immigration and migration to describe how their families ended up in the Fennimore area. It is always fun to learn how and why students end up in the area! #fes #EaglesSoar For more pictures visit https://fcs.smugmug.com/2023-24-School-Year/Fennimore-Elementary-School-2023-24/4th-Grade-2023-24/Family-History

Last Friday, fourth grade students participated in a presentation on the Civil War. Barbara and David Thyren, along with their daughter Christina, are Civil War reenactors who also do school presentations. They shared what life was like during the time of the Civil War (1861-1865). Fourth graders learned that children only went to school for six years. Each family had one slate to share during the day. Children also made their own toys to play with. Women dressed in layers that included hoop skirts. They also had dresses for different things they did such as cooking or going to town. The women had many responsibilities in daily living including sewing all the clothes. Soldiers did trainings at Camp Randall in Madison to be ready to serve in the war. The process of loading the rifle included using their teeth to open the gunpowder before pouring it into the barrel, then they packed it tight and put the bullet in. Soldiers put a bayonet on the end of their rifles and ran at the enemy to scare them off. The food they ate included hardtack, pork and anything else they could find. The students learned a lot about the Civil War! Thank You, Thyrens!

Recently, the fifth grade science classes had a special visitor. Stephen Goss, parent of one of our fifth graders and Fennimore Schools alum, is currently the Instrumentation & Controls Technology Instructor at Southwest Tech. During his visit he spoke to the students about Ohm’s Law, voltage, current, and resistance. Mr. Goss did some fun activities with the students using snap circuits, a maintained on and off switch, a press switch, a 100 Ohm resistor, conductors, and a fan blade. Students also got to use a digital multimeter to measure voltage current. The students also learned about the different classes in this field that they could take in the future. Thank you Mr. Goss! #fes #EaglesSoar For more pictures please visit https://fcs.smugmug.com/2023-24-School-Year/Fennimore-Elementary-School-2023-24/5th-Grade-2023-24/Electricity
