How To Work With Electronic Forms

This web page contains a few helpful tips that may help students complete electronic forms such as scholarship applications. It is important to remember that there are many ways to accomplish the task of filling out a form in a professional looking manner. We hope this page helps you to understand some of the common problems encountered and how you can work around those issues.

Form File Formats

Many forms that exist on the internet today are in either a pdf format or MS Word format. You can identify what type of file it is by looking at the file extension when you download the file.

  1. PDF - Commonly, a computer will open these files with Adobe Acrobat when you click on the file. However, unless you own a purchased copy of Adobe Acrobat Pro, you will not be able to edit and save the modified file. If you choose to fill out the forms at school, our computers have Adobe Acrobat Pro. If you would like to edit the file at home, you may want to use LibreOffice.

  2. doc or docx - These files are designed for Microsoft Word. The FHS computers have Microsoft Word installed allowing you to edit the files directly. If you would like to edit the file at home, and do not have MS Word, you may want to use LibreOffice.
