Class of the Week- Mrs. Schwingle's Class

This week's Class of the Week is Ms. Schwingle's 2nd Grade Class.  This has been a great year so far in Ms. Schwingle’s classroom. The students always work to do their very best, even when things are challenging! They are also working on becoming more independent workers. As they came back from winter break, they thought about new year’s resolutions that can make each of them better students and friends throughout this new year! They brainstormed some ideas and each student wrote down their own list of resolutions.

In reading, they have read materials of many genres, both fiction and nonfiction. One favorite genre would be a fable. They learned that fables are made up stories that teach a moral or lesson, usually using animals as characters. The students also enjoy nonfiction stories that help them learn true facts about their world.

They have been using many strategies in math to solve 2-digit addition and subtraction problems. The strategies they learn are helpful in building a stronger sense of mental math. The math topic they are on uses many story problems that the students need to break apart and analyze as to what math operation to use, whether to add or subtract, or possibly both!

Just before winter break, the children studied different traditions of winter holidays around the world. They pretended to pack their suitcases and have their passports ready to travel to countries like Mexico, Italy, Germany, and Australia to name a few.

Ms. Schwingle’s class is looking forward to more learning and growing together as classmates and friends!
