Last Friday the 2nd graders took a trip to the Kickapoo Orchards near Gays Mills. In Science, they have been learning about the apple tree life cycle, the parts of the apple, and about different varieties of apples. At the apple orchard they learned about how the apple farmers take care of their apple trees. The kids learned there is a correct way to pick an apple from the tree, so that next year's apples will be able to grow. They each got to try out that method by picking their own apples. The kids learned another technique of apple picking - buffing and shining up their apples on their "buffers" (their bellies) before the part they were anxiously waiting for - eating their apples!

Workers at the orchard treated the 2nd graders to apple cider and apple cider doughnuts. Asking the kids what their favorite part of the trip was, most said the sunflower maze!! On the way back from Gays Mills, the classes ate their lunches at the park in Boscobel and had a little play time there! It was a fantastic day all around!

Thanks to Julie and staff at the Kickapoo Apple Orchard for hosting the Fennimore 2nd graders!
