7th grade students from Fennimore Middle School traveled to Castle Rock Creek to release our trout from the Trout In the Classroom project. They studied the macro invertebrate stream life and enjoyed a fish shocking demonstration by the Wisconsin DNR. Following that they observed stream restoration being completed on the Blue River and finished up the day playing in one of the many springs that charge our cold water resources. Thank you to Mrs. Ihm and Mr. Meyer for organizing this trip! The FES 5th Grade students visited the Rollo Jamison and Mining Museum in Platteville recently. Students enjoyed learning about all sorts of artifacts that Rollo Jamison collected over the years. They also enjoyed learning about lead and zinc mining as they toured the mine. In the afternoon, the students enjoyed a picnic at Smith Park and then climbed the M before returning to Fennimore. #fes #EaglesSoar For more pics visit https://fcs.smugmug.com/2021-22-School-Year/Fennimore-Elementary-School-2021-22/5th-Grade-2021-22/Mining-Museum

After reading a Scandinavian folk tale that explains how the sea became salty and a paired read that instructs how to color salt, some third graders decorated a cup using different colors of salt. They ground sidewalk chalk with salt, then creatively layered it in different ways. It was a great activity to end a unit and students did a great job! #fes #EaglesSoar

Last week the 5th grade students got a chance to visit Peoples State Bank to learn all about bank operations. Students also learned about safety deposit boxes and were excited to see the inside of a safe to learn how money is stored. In addition, employees of the bank talked to the students about saving money, how bills are made, and how to spot counterfeit bills. A huge thank you goes out to Peoples State Bank and its employees for this great learning opportunity! #fes #EaglesSoar

Last week the third graders visited the Doll and Toy Museum in Fennimore. They spent time learning interesting details about some of the items, such as how they were decorated, what time period toys were from, and some of the contributors to the museum. For instance, they found out that a collection of over 700 Barbie dolls had been decorated by one person. Following our history dive, students were challenged with a scavenger hunt to find different toys. They had to use logical reasoning to determine the category of the dolls and toys, as well as the time period that they were from. For example, they may have had to find G.I. Joe or Holly Hobbie dolls. They had an excellent time learning about these interesting collections of toys and really enjoyed the experience! #fes #EaglesSoar For more pics visit https://fcs.smugmug.com/2021-22-School-Year/Fennimore-Elementary-School-2021-22/3rd-Grade-2021-22/Doll-Toy
