Every March, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction celebrates the importance of quality arts programs for students. Art and music are defined as core subjects in Wisconsin’s definition of a well-rounded education. This year Mrs. Greenlee’s class did family history projects on how their families got to Wisconsin. They worked very hard on creating an interesting presentation to the class. The students enjoyed hearing about other people's family history and how they got to Wisconsin. Here are some of the interesting facts from the presentations. Many of the students' families came from Germany, England, and Ireland. Many of the families came here in the 1800’s and even before that. One of the students was related to Governor Julius Heil who created the slogan “America's Dairyland.” Some students had letters added or dropped from their last names, such as a K being added and a C being dropped. Most families celebrated similar holidays such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. Some of the students have had land in their families from decades to centuries. #fes #EaglesSoar

Second graders have been studying landforms in a really "sweet" way. Students made edible landforms and then labeled them before diving in. They also constructed their own, bigger landform dioramas which they made at home and will be sharing via video with their class. Awesome work 2nd graders! In Mrs. Lathrop's high school Spanish classes, they just finished the Locura de Marzo music competition. This takes place in Spanish classes across the nation and worldwide. 1,460 schools participated from all 50 states, and in 14 different countries! Locally, Mrs. Lathrop hosted a bracket competition in each of her classes. The winners received a certificate, a prize package filled with Hispanic goodies, and a homework coupon. The best overall bracket winner was Tyson Gehrke; he will also receive a Locura de Marzo t-shirt! During this competition, students are exposed to popular music and musical artists from many different Hispanic countries, learn some of the lyrics, and become familiar with different genres of music. It's one of their favorite activities! Stay tuned this week as we share some videos, SmashDoodles, and posters they also created!
