Recently, the fifth grade science classes had a special visitor. Stephen Goss, parent of one of our fifth graders and Fennimore Schools alum, is currently the Instrumentation & Controls Technology Instructor at Southwest Tech. During his visit he spoke to the students about Ohm’s Law, voltage, current, and resistance. Mr. Goss did some fun activities with the students using snap circuits, a maintained on and off switch, a press switch, a 100 Ohm resistor, conductors, and a fan blade. Students also got to use a digital multimeter to measure voltage current. The students also learned about the different classes in this field that they could take in the future. Thank you Mr. Goss! #fes #EaglesSoar For more pictures please visit https://fcs.smugmug.com/2023-24-School-Year/Fennimore-Elementary-School-2023-24/5th-Grade-2023-24/Electricity

Tuesday, voters approved the Fennimore School District’s $17 million capital referendum. Approving the referendum will enable much-needed remodeling and renovations at both the elementary and middle/high school buildings. On behalf of the School Board and administration, we want to thank the school district voters for all the positive feedback and support. This is a very exciting time for our school district and community.

Last month the 2nd graders learned about Earth’s landforms and how they were formed. The students put in some very creative work building their landform dioramas. They were proud to present them to their families and friends! Another fun and tasty activity the 2nd graders loved was making edible landforms! #FES #EaglesSoar For more pics visit https://fcs.smugmug.com/2023-24-School-Year/Fennimore-Elementary-School-2023-24/2nd-Grade-2023-24/Landforms

Yesterday the AP Biology students had a guest. Normally, they go to BTCI in Madison for their Biotechnology labs, but the building is under construction. Yesterday, BTCI came to Fennimore! In the morning, students used restriction enzymes to cut DNA into fragments. Then, they loaded the fragments into a gel electrophoresis chamber to sort the pieces by size. In the afternoon, students performed bacterial transformation. They made E. coli pick up a plasmid that allowed the bacteria to glow when exposed to the right conditions. Why is it important to cast an informed vote? Every vote is important and can contribute to the outcome of the referendum vote. Sometimes, people think that their vote won’t matter. This simply is not true. When people participate in this process, we have a much more representative result from the community’s voters. Please remember to vote tomorrow.

Before Spring Break Kindergarten through Second Grade students got to experience what it would be like to be an illustrator of a book. Mrs. Hines, our elementary library assistant, wrote a short book titled "March Yuck!" and each student got the opportunity to illustrate one of the pages. The classes then got to keep the finished copy in their classroom library. FES certainly has some great illustrators out there! #fes #EaglesSoar

Did you know? Large-scale repairs are needed for our school buildings to address critical facility needs like removing asbestos from roofs and replacing roofs that are over 70 years old. At the elementary school, the lower level bathrooms are not ADA accessible. If approved the referendum will address critical issues such as these. Please cast an informed vote. Visit the Referendum FAQs for more details.

Did you know? The district tax rate has declined 19% in the past six years. The district has also prepaid $675,000 in interest on debts over the past 3 years and will be debt free this year. As a result the April 2 referendum will have no impact on the district tax rate.
