On Monday, February 5th, Fennimore Elementary students welcomed Opera For The Young (OFTY) members to perform Andre Gretry's "Beauty And The Beast" opera with the help of 16 fourth and fifth grade students. The OFTY was founded in Madison in 1970 and has been bringing the world of opera into schools since then. Students and their music teachers are given the materials to learn ahead of time, and 16 of our students worked very hard many mornings with Miss Stolte to be ready to perform with the four opera professionals. Our students were dressed as tropical birds, a strawberry, and a banana! With about a half hour of practice with OFTY pros, they were ready for their debut. The student audience enjoyed the music, sets, and costumes and look forward to doing this again sometime. #fes #EaglesSoar

This week's Class of the Week is Ms. Hunt's 4th Grade Class. These 4th graders have been working hard! In reading, they have been learning how to determine the author's point of view and how to summarize a story. In math, they have been focusing on fractions, specifically adding and subtracting them. They have also been working hard on their health projects about how to make healthy choices at fast food restaurants. Keep up the great work 4th graders!

Last month, some of our 4th and 5th grade students got the chance to attend a Math 24 Contest at Southwest Technical College. Math 24 is a card game that challenges players to manipulate four numbers on cards through addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to arrive at a target number of 24. It is a fast paced game that is great for building mental arithmetic skills and strategic thinking. Congratulations and great job representing Fennimore Elementary! #fes #EaglesSoar

In January, all FES students grades K-5 got the chance to go roller skating as part of their PE classes. Thanks to our PE Staff, teachers, and the Rainbo Palace for making this happen again for our students. Skating proves to be an enjoyable way for students to sneak in exercise while doing a fun activity. #EaglesSoar #fes
