This week's class of the week is Mr. Rutkowski's 3rd graders. These students have been working very hard to master their multiplication and division facts, and are using them to solve challenging story problems. In reading, they are learning how to identify the theme of a story by reading fables. Classic stories of friendship and teamwork have been good conversation starters! In addition to our reading and math units, students have been learning about the oceans, continents, and the life cycle of plants and animals. They have had a great start to 3rd grade, and Mr. Rutkowski is looking forward to the learning, games, and jokes that will fill the rest of the year! #EaglesSoar

On Thursday, October 26th, a group of middle and high school students traveled to Madison's Overture Center to watch a classmate perform with the 2023 State Honors Band. Meghan Trader, senior, auditioned last school year on the alto saxophone and became the first Fennimore High School student to perform with this group! The band played several songs during their hour-long concert, including several composed by WI composers who were in attendance. Congratulations Meghan on this amazing opportunity! #KeepMakingMusic #EaglesSoar

For the 2nd year, the Spanish 3 students have participated in the Symbolic Migration project. They sent their ambassador butterfly and paper butterflies on October 20th. They look forward to the return of the monarchs in the spring.
The annual migration of millions of monarch butterflies across North America is among the world’s most spectacular natural events. Facing declines in monarchs’ eastern and western populations, governments, non-profit organizations, community groups, and countless individuals throughout Mexico, the United States, and Canada are cooperating to protect the monarch butterfly.
Through the Symbolic Migration Project, youth can also participate in monarch conservation and protection. Youth decorate paper Symbolic Ambassador Monarch Butterflies that are mailed and distributed to schools near the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve in Central Mexico. These symbolic butterflies build bridges of communication among participants in Mexico, the United States, and Canada. United by the monarch butterfly, youth celebrate and pledge to protect monarchs and their extraordinary migration.

Last week during our PBIS Friday assembly the first student challenge was held. Any student from grades 3-5 could turn in Eagle Wings they earned for the chance to get their name drawn to compete in the challenge. Two students from each grade three through five took part in the challenge. The grade level students paired up and threw one marshmallow at a time to their partner who tried to catch it in a Solo cup. The goal was to try and catch as many marshmallows as you could in one minute. The 3rd grade pair caught 8 marshmallows and the 4th grade pair caught 18. The winning pair was the 5th graders who edged out the 4th graders by catching 19 marshmallows! Great job everyone! At this Friday's assembly, grades K-2 will get their turn at competing in a student challenge.#EaglesSoar #fes

Attention Elementary Parents: You may have received a text saying to check your email without the email arriving in your inbox. We have been alerted to the issue and will try again tomorrow to send it out! Our Skylert system is having technical difficulties this morning.

Attention Fennimore Community - there is currently a phone scam calling businesses and community members asking for donations for Fennimore band t-shirts. This is not associated with our school in any way. Please do not donate money over the phone to anyone!

Earlier this month, fourth grade students had the opportunity to visit Madison to see our current capitol. While visiting the capital, students got to see where legislators pass laws and where our state's Supreme Court listens to the state's current issues. The students also made a stop in Belmont on the way to see Wisconsin's first capitol building. It was interesting to see where Wisconsin legislators first met and even more fun since it is in Southwest Wisconsin! Field trips like this are always a great as it helps students make connections to the Wisconsin history and government they learn about in class.

The Fennimore National Honor Society members recently helped conduct a "Together We Fight Cancer" fundraiser at the October 10 high school volleyball match vs. Cuba City.
The NHS would like to thank the many parents and community members who helped organize and support this cause, as well as the donors who contributed to the Silent Auction.
$3684.50 was raised and donated to the Grant County Cancer Coalition from this event. The NHS is pictured with Pattie Wells of the Grant County Cancer Coalition donating the funds raised.
