This week's Class of the Week is Mr. Rutkowski's 3rd Grade Class. They have been learning a lot in room 36! They have been learning the differences between a fact and an opinion, how to multiply by multiples of 10, and how to write an opinion paper. Recejavascript:void(0)ntly, they read "Balloons Over Broadway," which is about the puppeteer who came up with giant balloons that are used in Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Students then created their own balloons based on the book. Their teacher is excited for the rest of the year. Even though there are going to be challenges ahead, he is confident that they will work hard to reach their goals. Keep up the great work 3rd Graders! #fes #EaglesSoar

November is National Epilepsy Awareness Month. Thanks to Sam Klein from Community First Bank for visiting Mrs. Goss' Personal Finance class this week to discuss credit and applying for loans. Students always receive so much information from these visits. #EaglePride

Fifth graders met with inspiring author Alane Adams over zoom this morning. Along with answering student questions, she talked to them about developing daily habits for writing and the important first step of using your creative brain to just get your ideas down. She also discussed how to create memorable connections to hook the reader from the first page. Her excitement and passion for writing was evident and very contagious!
The students watched her "Into the Book" video series before the visit and all of her books can be found in the school library. A special thanks to Mrs. Ahnen and the fifth grade teachers for providing this great opportunity for our students! Visit https://alaneadams.com/ to learn more about her and her books! #fes #EaglesSoar

Mrs. Bunn's first grade students were busy before Thanksgiving! They read the book Turkey Trouble and then they each disguised their own turkey to help it avoid being eaten on Thanksgiving. They also did some writing activities where they described their turkeys and wrote about them. #EaglesSoar #fes

2nd graders recently learned about the history of Thanksgiving, including how the Native Americans helped teach the Pilgrims to hunt, fish, and plant crops. They used chocolate pudding (soil), candy corn (corn seeds), Swedish Fish (fertilizer), and crushed up Oreos (dirt) to recreate how they planted corn. The children learned that the Native Americans put fish in with their seeds to help fertilize the corn with nutrients. What a fun and yummy learning activity #EaglesSoar
