Future careers in the making! Our 2nd graders recently got the opportunity to visit Southwest Technical College for a mini-career day — and they had a blast! They dove into six different areas of study, explored hands-on activities, and sparked their curiosity about the many exciting jobs out there. A huge thank you to SWTC staff and students for inspiring our young learners and helping them dream big! #fes #EaglesSoar For more pictures please visit https://fcs.smugmug.com/2024-25-School-Year/Fennimore-Elementary-School-2024-25/2nd-Grade-2024-25/Career-Fair

Last Friday, the Fennimore Tree Board visited the FES morning assembly. Margaret Sprague, who is a member of both the School Board and the Tree Board, announced that the Tree Board would like to honor the FES 2025 students with a grove of trees. She then presented a certificate from the Arbor Day Foundation, explaining that a grove of 85 trees will be planted in a forest in need, dedicated to FES students. We extend a heartfelt thank you to the Fennimore Tree Board and the Arbor Day Foundation for this meaningful tribute. #fes #EaglesSoar

A big shoutout to our 2nd graders! After a lot of practice, last Friday they shook off their nerves and stood tall in front of the whole 2nd Grade to recite a poem they picked out! Big courage in little voices—what a wonderful thing to witness. #fes #EaglesSoar

Fennimore FBLA showed up at the State Conference in a big way this year, placing 4th out of 81 schools in the Small Schools Division. Plus, 16 of the 33 members that attended placed in the top 10. Congrats to all the students for a great conference. Good luck to the 9 members competing at Nationals this summer. #FBLAPride

Congratulations to Josiah King for auditioning and earning a spot in the WI Music Association State Honors Band, and to Collin Birkelo for being selected as an alternate! The WSMA State Honors Music Project is a prestigious, nationally recognized program that offers an incredible opportunity for young musicians. Selected students take part in an intensive four-day summer camp in June and showcase their talents with a performance in Madison during the Wisconsin State Music Conference in October. Well done, Josiah and Collin—we’re proud of you! #WSMAHonors #MusicExcellence

Our 3rd graders wrapped up their biography unit in March. Each student chose a historical or influential figure, read their biography, wrote a report, and created a bottle buddy to represent them. Through this project, they not only learned about remarkable individuals but also gained valuable life skills like perseverance in reaching goals and understanding different perspectives. Fantastic work, 3rd graders! #FES #EaglesSoar For more pictures please visit https://fcs.smugmug.com/2024-25-School-Year/Fennimore-Elementary-School-2024-25/3rd-Grade-2024-25/Bottle-Buddies

Before spring break, fourth grade students participated in a presentation on the Civil War. The Thyrens have been Civil War reenactors for 25 years and have provided presentations to schools for 13 years. This year Barbara and Kristina shared what life was like during the time of the Civil War (1861-1865). The students learned a lot about the Civil War during the presentation. They learned that children only went to school for six years. Each family had one slate to share during the day. Children also made their own toys to play with. Women dressed in layers that included hoop skirts. They also had dresses for different things they did such as cooking or going to town. The women had many responsibilities in daily living including sewing all the clothes. Soldiers did various trainings at Camp Randall in Madison to be ready to serve in the war. The process of loading the rifle included using their teeth to open the gunpowder before pouring it into the barrel, then they packed it tight and put the bullet in. Soldiers put a bayonet on the end of their rifles and ran at the enemy to scare them off. The food they ate included hardtack, pork and anything else they could find. Thank You, Thyrens for sharing your knowledge with our students! #fes #EaglesSoar
