Shortly before winter break, the fifth grade students celebrated the end of CounterAct with an ice cream party. The students had 30 seconds to make an ice cream sundae while wearing the drug or alcohol impairment goggles.
CounterAct is an interactive skill-based curriculum . Students learn specific skills they can use to resist alcohol, other drugs, and violence that they can apply in real-life situations. CounterAct also emphasizes the importance of parents and family in the growth of elementary school students. Thanks to Fennimore Police Department for facilitating CounterAct with our 5th graders! #fes #EaglesSoar

During an indoor recess before break, Mr. Needham challenged our Kindergarten students to see how high they could stack cups. They made a pretty tall stack, but not quite as tall as Mr. Needham! Great Job 5K students! #fes #EaglesSoar

The 3rd grade students were presented with the challenge of which group could build the tallest tower using only gumdrops and toothpicks. Each group needed to build the tallest tower they could that could stand without being held. They were given 10 minutes to come up with a plan to construct their towers. Then they had 20 minutes to construct their towers. The 3rd graders used teamwork and a lot of communication skills to come up with the most successful towers! #fes #EaglesSoar

Recently, the Spanish 3 classes visited the first grade classrooms to teach them about poinsettias. They helped them make poinsettia headbands and then taught them a Spanish tradition of eating a grape every time the clock chimes at midnight. The students tried to eat a Skittle for every chime. The younger students love when the high school students visit and teach them new things! #fes #EaglesSoar

3rd Graders having been doing a 12 Day countdown to Christmas break and recently they had an experiment day. For one of their experiments they did a candy cane experiment, where they put candy canes into water, oil, vinegar, milk, and Mt. Dew. Surprisingly, the candy cane in the water dissolved the most. There was only a sliver left after a 1/2 hour! #EaglesSoar #fes

This week’s Class of the Week is Ms. Schwingle’s 2nd Grade Class. These second graders have been busy with many activities this year! In reading, the students have been learning about different kinds of text. Last week, they took a look at poems. They looked at the importance of word choice, expression, and rhythm when reading or writing a poem. In math, they have been learning and using many strategies to solve 2-digit addition and subtraction problems. They also have been learning to identify coins and counting out different coin combinations. This week, a special visitor came to visit Ms. Schwingle’s classroom. The “Grinch” has been sent here so that he can learn about kindness. The students are showing the “Grinch” good behavior and ways to be kind to others. This is a great class to learn from, Mr. Grinch! Keep up the great work 2nd graders!

The wrestling @ Kansas City for this weekend is canceled.
