Recently, Mrs. Williams-Richter shared some butterflies she raised to release with Mrs. Reinke's 2nd Grade Class. The students watched the Monarchs soar high, with some leaving the courtyard immediately, while others circled and landed to find nectar before taking off for Mexico. These Monarchs that fly 3,000 miles to Mexico are slightly larger than a normal Monarch and are known as the "super generation." Back in the classroom, the students learned more about Monarchs and were introduced to two other butterflies that Mrs. WR is raising to release --the Silver-spotted Skipper and the Silver-bordered Fritillary. The students loved seeing the caterpillars crawling around. Thank you Mrs. WR for sharing your love and knowledge of nature with our students! #fes #EaglesSoar

Students in AP Environmental Science are studying biodiversity. They recently went outside to analyze the biodiversity of different areas of Marsden Park. Students used quadrats to randomly select an area, and had to determine the variety of species within their quadrat. Students calculated the biodiversity of their plot with Simpson's Diversity Index, and then compared their area to the areas studied by other students. This week's Class of the Week is Mrs. Langmeier's 5th Grade Class. Mrs. Langmeier's Class has had a very busy September so far! They wrote in their Travel Journals about the great community and area they live in. They are sending the journals to someone they know in the United States. Recipients of the journals will send postcards back to the class, write in the journal about the area in which they live, and send it to someone else they know. The fifth graders hope to get many postcards from across the United States and also get the journals back in May, filled with lots of information about our great country. In Math, the students are learning how to add and subtract decimals. In Science, they have been learning all about equipment and safety in the Lab, and are getting ready to do some very cool experiments. In Reading, students have been learning all about Greek and Latin roots and continue to work on their comprehension skills, as they start their first trade book of the year, Shiloh. Keep up the great work 5th graders! #EaglesSoar #fes

Recently, they have been reviewing short vowel sounds, talking about compound words, and practicing how to answer multiple choice questions by using text evidence. They have also read many stories, including fairy tales like Beauty & the Beast. In math, they just finished learning how to fluently add & subtract within 20 using many different strategies. In science, they have been learning about animals, how to classify them, and their habitats. What fun! Keep up the great work 2nd graders! #fes #EaglesSoar
