Students in Mrs. Langmeier's Social Studies Classes recently studied History topics from the "1950's and Beyond" using a computer based program called Freedom Flix for their research. Some students also did some digging into their own family's history and learned about relatives that served in the Korean War, Vietnam War, Persian Gulf War, and Operation Enduring Freedom. Students shared what they learned with their classmates after creating posters using hand drawn objects, printed pictures, and some even brought in pictures and newspaper articles about family members and used them as artifacts. The students also visited the Veterans' Memorial in town and learned some interesting facts at the Legion Building from Curtis Cole. Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Mu Chapter is a sorority at UW Platteville for retired teachers. Each year they offer a writing competition for school-aged students. This year the opportunity was to write a creative writing story. Chevelle Pagel and Lily Griswold entered the contest. Chevelle earned 1st Place and Lily Griswold won 3rd Place. Last week the 5th graders took a field trip to the Mining & Rollo Jamison Museums in Platteville. They enjoyed getting a glimpse into the past with the various artifacts at the Rollo Jamison Museum. They also went down into the mine and learned about the rich history of lead and zinc mining in the area. After a nice lunch at the park, they were ready for climbing the Big M. 🐛It was an exciting week in the Kindergarten classrooms as our 5K friends bid farewell to their butterflies! From tiny caterpillars they journeyed through the stages of growth while the students patiently awaited the beautiful creatures that emerged.
