To celebrate April being National Poetry Month, each 2nd grade student chose a poem to memorize and recite to their classmates and a panel of school staff judges. There was a great variety of poems! We will be selling locally grown tulip bouquets from Rech Family Gardens! Brad and Sally Rech of Lancaster, WI own and operate Rech Family Gardens, which is a small specialty cut flower farm. Growing in both Mt. Hope and Lancaster, WI these bouquets are extra special as all the tulips are organically and locally grown! 2nd graders in Ms. Schwingle's classroom have been having a lot of fun with estimating and measuring. The students have been using the inch and centimeter ruler as well as the yardstick and meter stick. First, they would look at an object and estimate the length in inches, feet, or yards, centimeters or meters. Then they would measure for exact measurements. At last night's school board meeting, the board recognized the State Gold Medal Forensics students and the State Team Wrestlers for their great achievements this year! Ms. Kauffman’s class had fun hunting for proper noun Easter eggs! Each egg that was hidden contained a sentence with a word that needed capitalized. From names, stores, titles, and addresses, the students were able to identify which word needed that capital letter. Not only did they enjoy hunting for eggs, but also did a great job with the capitalization lesson.
