Recently, our 5th graders had an eye-opening CounterAct lesson with Officer Fecht focused on understanding consequences. Students got to experience firsthand how impairment affects coordination by trying to catch and throw a ball while wearing “beer goggles” and “drug goggles.”
The result? Lots of laughs—but also an important realization: every student agreed it was incredibly difficult, and they couldn’t imagine trying to ride a bike or drive under those conditions. What a powerful, hands-on way to learn about making safe choices. #fes #EaglesSoar

Fennimore Community School Board member Sheila Ruchti was honored for her 20 years of board member service at the board’s monthly meeting held on Wednesday, April 15.
Fennimore District Administrator Jane Wonderling presented Ruchti with a plaque recognizing her time on the school board. The meeting was then briefly paused for a round of cupcakes in Ruchti’s honor.
With her recent reelection, Ruchti will actually be beginning her 21st year on the Fennimore School Board.

Recently, Community First Bank visited our 2nd graders to celebrate Financial Literacy Month and Teach Children to Save Day—both in April! Students learned about banks and saving money through a Berenstain Bears story and fun, hands-on activities. Penny the Frog made a special appearance, and each child went home with their own coin pouch. The students had a blast! Our Fennimore Elementary students recently combined creativity, technology, and heart in a special Bookmark Design Contest! 📚✨
Students used Canva to design their own unique bookmarks, while also learning how to use the AI tool Gemini to brainstorm catchy slogans that matched their designs.
What made this contest even more meaningful was that four of our winning designs, created by fifth graders, were inspired by the memory of their classmate Judd. 💙 Their thoughtful tributes added a powerful and personal touch to the project.
Students judged the entries themselves, making this a truly student-driven celebration of creativity.
Congratulations to all who participated! 🎉 The winning bookmarks were sent to Canva for professional printing, and are now available for all students to enjoy during book check-outs.
We’re so proud of our students for their innovation, kindness, and creativity!

Last Thursday, our 4th and 5th grade students celebrated their 3rd quarter success with a well-earned reward trip to the Boscobel Theatre! Students who earned the reward headed to the Boscobel Theatre to enjoy Zootopia 2 on the big screen. It was a great way to recognize their hard work, positive choices, and dedication throughout the quarter. We’re proud of their efforts and all they’ve accomplished.
