The school spelling bee for 4th and 5th graders was held last week at Fennimore Elementary. There were 12 participants in all. After learning about different Apollo Missions in their CKLA reading unit, 5th graders enjoyed designing their own Apollo Landing Modules. Their passengers were eggs. It was time to test their modules this week. Students scored points for how much their projects resembled real modules from NASA, how close they got to their landing target, and most importantly if their passenger, the egg, survived!
Mrs. Langmeier's Class also had a special visitor, Mrs. Adkins, to help them out during the launch. Mrs. Adkins is a former FCS teacher and grandma to one of Mrs. Langmeier's students. This was always one of her favorite projects that she did with her students when she taught at FES. She also shared some information with the students about what she learned from attending Space Camp in Alabama . She even brought them some tasty rocket treats that she made for them! Great work, 5th Graders!

🚀🎉 Ready for Lift-Off: 5th Graders Soar with DIY Rocket Launches! After two weeks of working on their design, the 5th graders were eager and ready to launch their rockets. Using air pressure and water their rockets shot off into the air. Some of the rockets were destroyed by the speed of take-off, others fell apart on re-entry, and some went really high. Everyone had a lot of fun trying to catch them as they came back in for a landing. Overall, this project was a blast! #fes #EaglesSoar
